The World Health Organisation (WHO) has urged governments to issue a tax on all soft drinks in order to tackle the global obesity problem in the Western Pacific Region.
The international public health agency made the call following a workshop in Manila, which concluded that sugar-sweetened beverages were largely to blame for the issue.
It said tax policies would be a comprehensive approach to reducing sugar consumption and encouraging healthier alternatives.
