The Hong Kong Observatory has downgraded its storm signal from No 8 to No 3, as Typhoon Haima moves steadily away from the city and winds begin to weaken.
It comes after a day of heavy rain and strong winds, which tore down trees, disrupted transport services and left some in hospital.
As of 5pm, the storm was located 160km northeast of Hong Kong. It made landfall in the vicinity of the mainland city of Shanwei around lunchtime.
